SUPRIYA X KARA

Supriya works like a medium, her intuition shaping the objects she makes. Objects that hold moments - asking the viewer to ponder over them and to absorb them.

In this exhibition, Supriya and her objects embody creation as well as destruction. One body of work has been made over the mold of her pregnant belly, from which various forms originate.  Using clay slabs, the walls grow and finally develop into enclosed forms of life - creating a sacred space, a sacred void.

Her new works are inspired by a weapon from the Pondicherry Museum, a threefold weapon of spear, dagger and axe. She plays around with these independent and interconnected shapes with memories of her childhood, raised in the Indian army.

"Her tools" belongs to nature, who works in her playground and is nonjudgmental. Here we ponder on our present state of war, a thought we constantly live with.

Through learning and experiences, Supriya continuous to search within her and the wider universe.  Her works are an expression of our contemporary mind and creates beauty through forms, colours, material and symbolic meanings.
